Stuart birchall’s creative journey began at a young age with an early affinity for storytelling and drawing. He found himself gravitating naturally towards other areas of art; exploring photography and design, before eventually focussing his skill on writing and directing. Setting up his first production company at 21 after winning funding through the princes trust, birchall, who was still studying at west herts college at the time, began making his first short films and music videos. Successfully receiving a film commission from ‘the british film council’ during this time, directing his first commissioned film. It was whilst studying at west herts college he met his future business partners alex noyer and alex dunn, although it would be a further four years before they would make the decision to collaborate and set up you know ltd.

With you know, stuart had the perfect opportunity to hone his creativity further; through camerawork, lighting, photography, design and editing, he was able to develop skills and understanding that would compliment his principle role as a director. As the business grew, so did the opportunities and challenges that allowed him freedom to practice his art and, more pivotally, evolve the style to his work that he is fast being recognised for.

By the summer of 2011, advertising, documentary and music projects have seen him travel across europe and the us. Stuart’s varied experience as a director includes short film, music video, feature length documentary, art installation and advertising work. Today stuart works as a freelance director, whilst remains an integral team member of you know. He is currently working with international music labels, brands and artists and writing his first feature length film script.
